Acting, agent and casting Workshops in London and online
We run acting, agent and casting workshops online and in-person. Our workshops are the most affordable in the UK, boasting some of the biggest Casting Directors in the theatre and film industry such as Faye Timby from Sophie Holland Casting (The Witcher, Netflix), Olivia Brittain (Dune, Legendary Pictures) and Sacha Garrett from Nina Gold Casting. JAM Agent workshops are hosted by some of the biggest acting agencies in the UK, including CAM, United Agents, Curtis Brown and Independent.
The Luke Westlake Scholarship
JAM host an annual award called The Luke Westlake Scholarship. The scholarship offers 2nd year actors in training, at drama school or University, the chance to win over £6000 worth of financial and developmental support as they graduate into the industry.
Prizes from include Spotlight membership, The Stage membership and meetings with leading industry professionals such as Becky Paris (Head of Casting at The Globe). Former winners include Ayomide Adegun (The Continental, John Wick), Madison Stock (Holby City, BBC) and Melodie Karczewski (Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama).
New Writing Plays
Both Liam McLaughlin and Kristian Wall (executive directors of the charity) are Stage One Commercial Producers and produce new writing plays that give unheard voices a platform.
In 2019, they produced Digging Deep by Amy Guyler which explored men’s mental health and male suicide in a working class town. The play was supported by Lambeth Council, CALM and the Andrew Webber Foundation. In 2020, JAM produced Who Cares by Conor Hunt which explored a young working class man living with muscular dystrophy. The play was supported by Arts Council England and Muscular Dystrophy UK.
In 2023, they returned to the stage with Biscuits For Breakfast at the Hampstead Theatre, having commissioned Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting winner, Gareth Farr, to write a new play about food banks and food poverty in the South West of England. This was thanks to a successful R&D, supported by Arts Council England and Theatre Royal Plymouth.
The Charity
The charity’s mission is to make the arts industry more accessible for actors. More specifically, working class actors and actors from underrepresented low socio-economic backgrounds.
We try to achieve our mission through our operations, but are always developing new plans to support actors. The charity doesn’t receive any core or public funding, so please consider donating and supporting our work.
The charity is led by Liam McLaughlin and Kristian Wall, supported by a the Board of Trustees: Lee Westlake (Chair), Robyn Asolo, Faye Timby and Remmie Milner.
